Haiti: Two Years After the Earthquake

Canada is continuing to help the millions of people in Haiti whose lives were stricken by the violent earthquake of January 12, 2010.

With Canadian and international partners, and in line with Haiti's Action Plan for Recovery and Development and the priorities of the Haitian government, Canada provided urgent humanitarian aid to those affected by the earthquake and continues to support projects that contribute to the long-term reconstruction and development of Haiti.

In total, between 2006 and 2012, the Government of Canada has committed more than $1 billion towards Haiti, which makes this country Canada's largest aid beneficiary in the Americas. As well, Canada is a member of the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission and the Haiti Reconstruction Fund.

Although these efforts have already resulted in some positive changes, the needs in Haiti are still enormous. With all of the work still to do, Canada remains resolved to support Haiti in the years to come.

CIDA is the main federal government agency responsible for humanitarian assistance and international cooperation. With the support of its trusted partners, it is doing everything it can to ensure that Canada's response to the disaster is effective and meets the needs of the people of Haiti.
