Canada's International Aid for Libya

Canada will continue to work with transitional leaders as the new Libya takes shape.

CIDA currently does not have a development assistance program in Libya. However, Canada has worked with the international community in addressing the humanitarian crisis that resulted from the movement to overthrow the Gaddafi regime.

As of October 24, Canada has contributed $10.6 million in humanitarian assistance―$10 million through CIDA and $600,000 through the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.

Canada's help, through CIDA, includes providing food assistance for an estimated one million people in need, as well as providing assistance and protection to people displaced by the fighting in Libya―both within the country and in neighbouring countries. This includes supporting the repatriation of migrants to their countries of origin.
